Whether you’ve been thinking about it for a while, you’re looking to commission a painting as a gift or you’re in interior designer searching for commission artists to satisfy your clients’ requirements, you’ve come to the right place.
The sense of peace and perspective that comes from spending time outdoors, creating memories in your favourite place is what I aim to inject into my paintings. Perhaps it's the awe and wonder you feel watching the sky change colour at sunset or the calm that comes from watching the rhythm of waves washing in and out along the shoreline or perhaps just the joy of a particular, special moment with your loved ones.
My painting commission service is where you come when you want those memories to be translated onto canvas. Bring the sense of peace into your home and be taken away to those feelings time and time again, from the safe haven of your indoor world.
Commissioning a painting, I understand can be a scary thing to do, it takes trust - it’s a considered purchase and not something that’s done on a whim or indeed that you do every day!
So, with that in mind, let me try to give you a little more information about what’s it’s like to work with me, answer some of the questions that are on your mind and try to put you at ease.
I understand the time it takes to make decisions about who to invest your vision and trust with.
I’ve worked as a full-time commission artist since my decade-long career in Architecture. During that time, my clients have held and developed confidence in my practice which is evidenced through their feedback and return custom. I aim to deliver the highest quality service through great communication and openness and I love to hear as much as possible about your ideas as the initial step.
Perhaps you’ll get in touch with some very specific thoughts or perhaps you’re an interior designer with a colour palette and a brief. Either way, I’m always happy to listen to and discuss your ideas either on email, phone or video chat, whichever option suits you best.
Your painting will be totally unique to you. If it’s a memory that you would like to be captured and treasured and you have a photograph to share with me that you’d like me to work from, then great. Equally, if it’s a colour palette that energises you and you’re not sure exactly what the scene should be then that’s also great, I am an artist after all and I can come up with ideas!
Sometimes the brief could be “I’m trying to create a sense of… in this room and I would like your help to achieve that.” Through conversation and consultation we will work together to achieve a statement piece of artwork that is evocative of those feelings for you.
After we’ve had a chat and I have understood your ideas as clearly as possible, I offer the option of creating a ‘mock-up’. As part of my job as a CGI artist, I used Photoshop professionally to ‘make things look real’ even though they don’t exist yet. By this I mean, I can (or ask you to) take measurements and a photo of the space you’re thinking of putting the painting(s) in and get to work on helping you visualise what it/they will look like once complete. Given that each painting is original and unique, the ‘mock-up’ is designed to give you a feel for what the outcome will be, there’s still a process to go through but you can think of it like you would think about having an extension put on your house; this is the planning stage where the architect will draw/model what it’s going to look like and you can play around with the size and layout until you’re satisfied!
Once we’ve reached the point where you’re super happy and excited by what you’re going to receive, I can order the materials and get myself in the frame of mind to paint (this is my ‘thing’ to worry about so fear not…!). A little like an athlete, I spend time visualising what I’m about to do in order that my mind is primed for painting to the best of my ability. Allowing for this ‘pre-painting’ time is essential to my work, I have learnt time and time again that I can’t force creativity through willing alone!
Back to the planning analogy…unlike building an extension, I will give you the opportunity to provide feedback/guidance along the way; this doesn’t allow for a complete change of direction on what kind of painting you would like - once I’ve started, I’m sticking to the original plans but I will encourage you to get in on the details - the depth, the tones, the contrast, we work together to achieve the end result. My main aim is to achieve 100% happy customer.
I’m confident that if you are still reading this then you are here because you appreciate and enjoy my style of painting and are considering commissioning your own piece of art at some point, I can’t wait to chat about what you have in mind and where it’s going to live!
I usually take between 4 - 8 weeks to complete a piece however if your painting is a gift and/or you require it quicker then please let me know.
The price of the final piece will depend upon the size and detail involved and will be discussed in full when we chat about your requirements.
Commission prices begin at £1000 and I will progress once the 50% initial payment has been received. The balance payment will be required upon completion of the painting and before delivery.
If you have any questions that I haven’t managed to answer in this listing and you’re still a little nervous, don’t be - just ask here.
If you’re all in and ready to take the leap then hurray! I’m excited you’re ready and I can’t wait to work with you!
